The Company

Denise Szykula Artistic Director/Choreographer

Szykula's body of work was recognized by the Arts Foundationof Michigan in 1984 when she received the Michigan Arts Award for Excellence.Two of her dances are preserved in the archives of the Dance LabanotationBureau and the Archives of American Art. Szykula studied with Graham, Limon,Taylor and Cunningham. In the 1980's she developed the Traveling Techniquewhich accommodated her own choreography.

Yvonne Maes

Company Member/Choreographer

Yvonne has been studying dance since 1991. This is her seventhseason with Dance Nonce. The Company premieres Rush the second dance Maeshas choreographed for Nonce. In addition to her work with Nonce, Maes studiesin Ann Arbor, MI and New York City. Her 11 year old son, Evan, providesa constant source of inspiration.

Susan Doucet

Company Member

Susan is originally from Toronto, Ontario. She is a graduateof York University with an Honor B.F.A. in dance performance. In 1987 and1988, she was the winner of York University Dance Bursaries. In 1984, sheperformed at the IX International Dance Colloquium in Mexico City and hasworked with choreographers from Toronto and Montreal. She is a member ofGina Lori Riley Dance Enterprises. This is Susan's sixth season with NONCE.

Anh Nguyen

Company Member

Anh Nguyen is a student of music at the University of Windsor.He has been dancing with Nonce for the past five years. He is a foundingmember of the Windsor Dance Company, Artistry. Anh also dances with theDetroit Dance Collective.

Louise Paquette

Company Member/Choreographer

Louise is the newest member of Dance Nonce and this is her premiereperformance with the company. In 1995, Louise received her BFA from YorkUniversity in Toronto. She is a member of Gina Lori Riley Dance Enterprises.Ms. Paquette's choreography has been featured at the Fringe Festival ofIndependent Dance Artists in Toronto.
