Below are some expressions by youngsters visiting the sculpture.
I saw the Red Demon. It was very intimidating. And kind
of seemed to be hidden and stand out at the same time. I read about
the Red Demon in the interpretive field guide, and it said: "Far from a
benevolent fairy, this demon is a member of the more frightening family
of forest creatures." Upon closer inspection,. however, I disagreed
with this statement. I thought the Red Demon seemed more like a sea
creature that was an omnivore and you could play with it. It
just seemed to me to be sort of playful. Still, I thought this conveyed
a sense of a child emerging into a harsh, cruel world. I really liked
it . . . .

As I walked through the rough path,
the scent of pine fills my nose.
I continue as a devil with eyes so red
glares at me as it crawls out of its fiery prison.
Shall I fear, or shall I push on?
I keep going and I realize that the
creature cannot escape
for the loving yet brutal earth keeps
him bound.
So as I continue, I reach a place where
the echo of voices surround me.
I sit as the clouds go by as I fuel my
body for its tranquil journey.
Shall I stay, or shall I push on?
I get up with the ambition to go,
Which way do I go?
Towards the hike, left,
or towards the journey, right?
Shall I turn back or shall I push on?
I felt the urge of adventure.
Right.
I ran down the path of wood,
my heart beating like a drum.
My blood on fire,
I come to five long fins erected out of
the ground. The experience dwarfs me.
and I freeze, but I still push on . . . .
